Wiring guides, installation steps and the video for the model you bought

The guides below cover the three wiring situations we see most. Installation steps for every model are on its specification sheet, and 50 of the 54 models also have a video showing the device being wired.

What arrives with the device

Every unit ships with the paperwork an installer or an inspector may ask for.

  • Device, mounting screws and the wall plate where the model includes one
  • Installation and wiring instruction sheet for the product line
  • Model marking on the device face, matching the carton and the specification sheet
  • Packing list and certificate of origin at the order level
  • Wiring guide PDF for the family, linked from this page

Five things to check on site

These are the failure points we see in field questions, none of which are device faults.

CheckWhy it matters
Line side versus load sideGFCI receptacles protect downstream outlets through the LOAD terminals. Reversed wiring leaves the downstream devices unprotected while the face test still passes.
Wall box depthCombination and USB models need more depth than a standard receptacle. Confirm the box before the drywall closes.
Conductor and terminal torqueBack-wire and side-wire terminals have a specified range. A loose terminal is the most common service call on any brand of device.
TR or WR requirementTamper-resistant is a dwelling-unit requirement in most jurisdictions; weather-resistant is a location requirement. They are not interchangeable.
Plate openingDecorator, duplex, toggle and blank openings are not interchangeable across device types. The compatible plate for each model is listed on its sheet.

Local code editions differ by jurisdiction and are revised on their own schedule. The installation steps here follow the standard the device is listed to, not the code edition in force in your state or province.

Model videos

50 models have a wiring video

Each clip shows the device being wired and installed — the same model you are buying, not a generic animation. Open a card to watch it on the model page, alongside the specification sheet.

Four models in the range have no video yet — the four wall plate models, T9601, T9602, T9603 and T9607. Plates are ordered from the schedule rather than filmed; their specification sheets are complete, and filming them is on our list.

Per model

Installation steps are on each model's sheet

The five steps for a specific model — stripped cable, terminals, plate and test sequence — sit on its specification sheet, taken from the installation data held for that model.

Send the list, get the package back

Model list, quantities and project type is all we need to start. The quotation comes back in one business day with the specification sheet for each line item, the listing reference it holds and the packing detail for the DC — one document, not four.
