What can carry your brand

Four surfaces, one part number

A private-label order usually changes more than the print on the face. These are the places your identity can sit.

The device face

Custom product markings on standard models, so the device a contractor installs carries your name instead of a generic one.

Face markingStandard molds

The finish

Seven finishes to match what your channel already stocks: White, Black, Ivory, Almond, Gray, Brown and Graphite, with the wall plate supplied in the same finish.

The packaging

Individual box, inner carton and master carton produced to your approved specification, with your carton marks, your artwork and barcode integration at the level your channel orders by.

The paperwork

Private-label orders carry an extra documentation set: face markings, packaging design and UPC barcode assignments, written down for customs and retail compliance.

Pick the path

Stock, OEM on existing molds, OEM tooling or ODM

The four paths differ in what changes and therefore in what the minimum looks like. The minimum itself is quoted per program.

PathWhat changesWhat it means for the order
Stock supplyNothing — our catalog model in our cartonQuoted from existing molds and current inventory. The fastest route to a first shipment.
OEM on existing moldsMarking, finish, individual box or master cartonExisting molds carry OEM runs inside standard production lead times. The minimum reflects the run, not new tooling.
OEM with new toolingA model that does not exist in our catalog yetQuoted with the tooling cost amortised into the order, which is why the minimum is higher than for stock or existing-mold work.
ODM private labelThe brand and the packaging — the product is oursThe fastest path to a shelf-ready private-label item: no new tooling, artwork approved against a sample.

None of these rows carries a published number. MOQ, tooling cost and approval turnaround are quoted per model and per finish.

How it runs

Five steps, two of them gates

Artwork approval and the listing decision are the two that reset the clock if they arrive late.

Requirement

Category, target models, quantity, destination, and whether the marking change sits on the face, on the packaging, or on both.

Quote with the minimum stated

The preliminary quote names the minimum for the models and finishes you asked for, and flags anything that needs new tooling.

Listing decision

If your company name must appear in UL's directory under your own entry, raise it here — before artwork, not after cartons are printed.

Artwork and sample

Artwork files, barcode numbers and carton marks are approved against a sample, so your inspector sees the device that will ship.

Production and documents

Standard production runs 25–35 days after deposit and artwork confirmation. The private-label documentation set ships with the order.

The part buyers ask about last

Whose UL file number is on a private-label device

Search the file number printed on a private-label device and you will usually find the manufacturer's name, not yours. That is the default OEM structure, not a missing certification.

A UL file number belongs to the company that submitted the product for testing and signed the Follow-Up Service agreement. In an OEM arrangement that company is the factory, and the number covers the models on the record regardless of which brand goes on the box.

If your brand name has to be searchable in UL's directory — because an AHJ verifies listings under your name, a retailer audits supplier listings under your account, or the specification names the listed company — the route is Multiple Listing Service. Your company becomes a multiple listee on our file: we provide the file documentation and the model designations to be added, you apply to UL, and we authorise the request through UL's process. The fee and the timeline belong to UL.

  • Treat multiple listing as a multi-week documentation process, not a line on a packaging order.
  • Raise it at quotation stage. After artwork approval it is a packaging redo, not a listing question.
  • Decide per channel: a single distribution agreement may not need your name in the directory at all.
Where private-label programs usually start

Models with molds already cut

Nothing new has to be tooled, so the only variables are the marking, the finish and the carton.

Before you ask

What we quote rather than publish

These are the lines we will not put a number on until the model and the finish are named.

  • The preliminary quote states the minimum for the models and finishes you asked for — one number, not a range across the catalog.
  • Tooling cost is amortised across the order, which is why a new model carries a different minimum from an existing one.
  • Artwork and marking approval gate the production run: production starts after deposit and artwork confirmation.
Private label FAQ

Questions that arrive with the first artwork file

Can you print our brand on the device itself?

Yes. Custom product markings on standard models, with the wall plate supplied in the matching finish, so the installed device reads as your product rather than a generic one.

Do we need new tooling to sell under our own brand?

Not necessarily. ODM private label puts our catalog model under your brand and your packaging with no new tooling. OEM tooling is only needed when the product itself has to change.

How do we get our company name into UL's directory?

Through Multiple Listing Service on our file. We provide the file documentation and the model designations to be added; you file the application with UL; we authorise the request. UL sets the fee and the timeline, and it is measured in weeks, so raise it with the quotation.

What files do you need from us?

Artwork for the individual box, inner carton and master carton; the barcode numbers or GTIN assignment to print at each level; and the wording your market requires for country-of-origin marking. We proof all three before print.

Does a private-label order change the lead time?

The production block is the same; what changes is what has to be approved before it can start. An order that adds a new box design starts counting from artwork approval, not from the purchase order.

Send the list, get the package back

Model list, quantities and project type is all we need to start. The quotation comes back in one business day with the specification sheet for each line item, the listing reference it holds and the packing detail for the DC — one document, not four.
