20AA duplex receptacle is the highest-count device on almost every electrical schedule, which makes it the line where a small unit-price difference is worth the most. This line covers the two faces a specification asks for — the traditional duplex and the decorator — in 15A and 20A, with and without tamper-resistant shutters and with a weather-resistant construction for damp locations.
What the models share is deliberate: thermoplastic face and body, brass / green / silver terminals, side and back wiring, a grounding path, and a plate included with the device. What changes is the face, the rating, and the shutter and gasket construction the location calls for. The finishes come from one palette across the whole line, so a unit turn does not read as a patchwork of whites by room.
The two faces are not interchangeable at the plate. A duplex receptacle takes a duplex plate with two openings and a centre screw; a decorator receptacle takes a large rectangular decorator opening and top-and-bottom screws. Both plate types are in the Wall Plates line, and mixing them is the single most common ordering error on this page.
| Ratings | 15A / 20A · 125V AC · NEMA 5-15R / 5-20R |
|---|---|
| Faces | Traditional duplex and decorator (rectangular) |
| Shutters | Tamper-resistant (TR) available; non-TR models are the standard versions |
| Weather-resistant | TR/WR construction for outdoor, damp and wet locations |
| Body and face material | Thermoplastic |
| Terminals | Side and back wire · brass hot, silver neutral, green ground |
| Grounding | Yes — self-grounding clip on the grounded models |
| Wall plate | Included with the device |
| Finish range | White, black, ivory, almond, grey, brown, graphite |
The face, the rating and the shutter requirement come from the drawing and the code edition. The colour comes from the interior package. Everything else is a sourcing decision.
| What the schedule says | What to put on the PO | Why buyers get this wrong |
|---|---|---|
| Dwelling units, guest rooms, dorms | 15A TR decorator or duplex — TDT15 (duplex) or TMSR15 face where the spec is decorator | Non-TR models still ship into projects where NEC 406.12 applies. The inspector catches it, not the buyer. |
| Kitchen, laundry, garage and shop circuits | 20A T-slot duplex — TMDR20, or TDTW20 where the location also needs the WR construction | 20A is a branch-circuit decision, not an upgrade. The face has to match the circuit either way. |
| Exterior walls, patios, covered porches | TR/WR — TDTW15 / TDTW20, plus the correct cover | WR is not waterproof. The receptacle is half the assembly and the cover is the other half — and the cover is a separate line. |
| Hospitality and multifamily unit turns | One face, one finish, one plate type across the floor | Buying duplex in one room and decorator in the next is what makes a refurbished floor look patched. |
| Distributor shelf stock | 15A TR and 20A TR as the two base SKUs, WR and non-TR as depth | Stocking every combination ties up cash; the two TR faces cover most counter demand. |
The same eight models are bought for dwelling units, guest rooms, commercial fit-outs and unit turns. What changes between them is the face, the shutter and the finish.
These are the documents we hold for the line and can send with a quotation. Where a model carries a qualification in the source data — that is, the listing is confirmed for that device and not just for the family — we say so on the line item rather than on the page.
Non-TR models are a legitimate product for exempt applications and are listed here as such — but we do not present them as a safe substitute for TR in housing. If the project type is unclear we will quote TR and flag the assumption in writing.
Send the device schedule by room type and floor. We will return the model list, the face and finish per line, the plate cross-reference, and the carton count — which is usually the number that decides who wins the bid.
Send a device schedule →The listed models are recorded as UL/cUL listed in our product data, and the quotation names the devices the certification covers. Where a line item does not carry a qualification in our data we will not present it as listed — ask and we will confirm per model before the order.
The face opening, and therefore the plate: the duplex face takes a plate with two separate outlet openings and a centre screw, while the decorator face takes a large rectangular opening with top and bottom screws. Electrically they are the same class of device.
They are different faces, so they are packed and labelled as separate line items. They can share the pallet, the container and the paperwork, which is normally what a DC wants anyway because the receiving scan is per SKU.
Devices and plates are drawn from one palette, and the models in this line are published with the same set of finishes. Availability is confirmed per model when you quote, so lock the colour with the model list rather than after production starts.
Yes — the plate is part of the device line item for this range and the mounting screws ship with it. Where a distributor programme needs the plates packed separately, that is a packaging instruction on the order rather than a second purchase.
Production runs 25–35 days depending on the mix and the colour confirmation, and samples are around five working days. The two variables that move the date are colour confirmation and packaging artwork approval.
Tick any models in the comparison tool and only the differences get highlighted — amperage, NEMA configuration, face type, TR/WR construction, finish range. Then send the shortlist as one RFQ.
Model list, quantities and project type is all we need to start. The quotation comes back in one business day with the specification sheet for each line item, the listing reference it holds and the packing detail for the DC — one document, not four.
