15A Tamper-Resistant Self-Test GFCI Outlet

TST15 · China
TRSelf-test

15A 125V ground-fault receptacle with a NEMA 5-15R face. It is built as a Class A self-test GFCI — the device checks its own protection circuit and locks out the reset if that check fails. The face is tamper-resistant, so the shutters stay closed unless both slots are pressed at once.

Part of the Class A self-test GFCI line — UL 943 Ed. 6 construction, 5 mA ±1 mA trip level, automatic self-test with reset lockout on failure.

The short version

What TST15 is, and what you get

SAFEClass A ground-fault protection at a 5mA ±1mA trip level, self-tested automatically.
SELF-TESTINGThe device checks its own protection circuit and locks out the reset if that check fails.
SHUTTEREDTamper-resistant shutters open only when both slots are pressed at once — required by NEC 406.12 in housing and guest rooms.
PLATE IN THE BOXThe matching plate (T9603 1-Gang Decorator Receptacle Wallplate) ships with the device, so the opening and the finish arrive together.
ONE ORDER15A, 20A, WR and USB faces load in one container — one PO, one packing list, one set of documents.

Confirm before the PO
  • Confirm TR or non-TR before ordering — NEC 406.12 applies to dwelling units and public spaces.
  • On WR models the receptacle is half the assembly: the cover and the box are separate lines.
  • GFCI + USB models take a decorator opening and a deeper wall box — confirm the box before the order.
What you get
  • Automatic self-test monitoring helps verify GFCI protection status
  • UL/cUL listed under the UL 943 Class A GFCI framework with a 5mA ±1mA trip level
  • Tamper-resistant shutters support indoor locations that require TR receptacle protection under NEC 406.12
  • NEMA 5-15R configuration with back-wire and side-wire terminal options
  • 7 standard colors — White, Black, Ivory, Almond, Grey, Brown, Graphite
  • Wall plate included

Installation

How to Wire a GFCI Receptacle (Standard 15A/20A NA Market)

01Power Off & VerifyTurn off the breaker and verify the box is de-energized with a voltage tester.
02Identify LINE and LOADIdentify the incoming power cable for the LINE terminals. If a second cable feeds downstream receptacles, identify it as LOAD and use it only when downstream GFCI protection is required.
03Connect LINE WiresConnect the incoming hot wire to the brass LINE terminal, the incoming neutral wire to the silver LINE terminal, and the ground wire to the green grounding terminal.
04Connect LOAD If NeededIf downstream protection is required, connect the outgoing hot wire to the brass LOAD terminal and the outgoing neutral wire to the silver LOAD terminal. Do not reverse LINE and LOAD.
05Mount, Reset and TestFold the wires neatly into the box, mount the GFCI receptacle, install the wall plate, restore power, press RESET, and press TEST to confirm proper operation before resetting again.

The plate for this device is T9603 1-Gang Decorator Receptacle Wallplate. Order the plate with the device so the opening, the face and the finish arrive on the same delivery — and confirm the wall box depth on any combination or fast-charge model before installation day.

Questions buyers ask about this model

TST15 — answered

Is the TST15 a self-test device, or do I have to test it myself?

Every model in this line is self-test. The device runs an automatic periodic check of its own protection circuit and, if that check fails, locks out the reset — so a failed GFCI cannot be reset and left in service. On the UL 943 framework the self-test is a requirement, not an upgrade, and it removes the monthly manual test that nobody in a guest room or a rental ever performs.

Why does the TST15 feel tighter when I push a plug in?

Because it is tamper-resistant. The shutters stay closed unless both slots are pressed at the same time, which is what makes a TR receptacle feel firmer than a standard outlet. NEC 406.12 requires listed TR receptacles in dwelling units, guest rooms, education and child-care facilities and similar occupancies — the tightness is the feature, not a defect.

Can I use the TST15 outdoors or on a covered porch?

No. This model is not weather-resistant and is published for indoor dry locations. For exterior walls, patios, pool and irrigation equipment or a garage with direct weather exposure, order the WR model in the same line and pair it with the correct cover.

Does it come with the wall plate and the screws?

Yes — wall plate included, and the matching plate for this face is T9603 1-Gang Decorator Receptacle Wallplate. Mounting screws ship with the device. If you need plates packed separately for a distributor program, that is a packaging instruction on the order rather than a second purchase.

Can a 15A device go on a 20A circuit?

A 15A receptacle is permitted on a 20A branch circuit where the circuit serves two or more receptacles — that is NEC 210.21(B)(3), and it is normal practice in commercial and multi-unit work. What is not interchangeable is the face geometry: a NEMA 5-20R device on a 15A circuit fails the same inspection the other way round. Confirm the circuit design rather than the look of the device.

Does the GFCI protect the outlets downstream on the same circuit?

Yes, when the LOAD terminals are used: the hot and neutral feeding the downstream devices land on the brass and silver LOAD terminals and everything beyond them is protected by this device. Reversing LINE and LOAD is the error that shows up as a GFCI that trips as soon as a downstream load is plugged in — and it silently removes the downstream protection as well.

Answers above are specific to TST15; the model list, quantities and project type is what we need to quote it back in one business day.
