The short version

What TM-2 is, and what you get

UL 20Built and published against UL 20.
TWO LOCATIONSOne light controlled from two points — order the pair, one device goes at each end.
SELF-GROUNDINGSelf-grounding clip, with side wire, back wire and push-in terminations.
PLATE BY SPECThe device ships without a plate so you specify the opening: decorator for rocker faces, toggle for toggle faces.

15A 125V AC 3-way toggle switch.

Part of the UL 20 switch line — toggle and decorator rocker faces, single pole through 4-way, plus dual and triple rocker combination models for a single-gang opening.

Confirm before the PO
  • Count the control locations first: a 3-way circuit needs two 3-way devices, and a 4-way sits between them.
  • Wall plates are not included in this line — a decorator opening is needed for the rocker faces.
  • Mechanical switching only: no dimming, timer or smart control in this line.
What you get
  • 15A 125V 3-way toggle switch for controlling one light or one load from two wall locations
  • UL/cUL listing with UL file number E327438 and UL 20 coverage for switch product verification
  • Blank toggle face without ON/OFF markings for proper 3-way switching operation
  • Side wire, back wire, and push-in wiring options support common contractor installation preferences
  • Self-grounding clip, thermoplastic body, individual box packaging, and seven color options for project matching

Is it the right model?

Use this one, or step to another

Choose TM-2 when
  • Contractors sourcing 3-way toggle switches for stairways, hallways, and rooms with two entrances
  • Property maintenance teams replacing older 3-way switches across apartment or multi-unit buildings
  • Distributors stocking matching 15A toggle switches in White, Black, Ivory, Almond, Grey, Brown, and Graphite
  • Project buyers who need a 15A 125V UL/cUL listed 3-way switch with side wire, back wire, and push-in wiring options
Step to another model when
  • Choose 15A Single Pole Toggle Switch when the light is controlled from only one location.
  • Choose a 4-way switch when the same lighting load must be controlled from three or more locations.
  • Choose Standard Toggle Wallplates at the same time if the order needs matching covers for a finished installation.
  • For broader sourcing risk, review our UL/cUL certification and electrical sourcing risk guide before placing repeated device orders.

Installation

How to Wire a Standard 3-Way Toggle Switch

01Power Off & Identify the CircuitTurn off the breaker and confirm both switch boxes are de-energized with a voltage tester or multimeter. Verify that the load is controlled from two locations, not one.
02Tag the Common WireBefore removing the old switch, identify and label the wire connected to the common terminal. The common terminal is often darker or marked COM, but always follow the device marking.
03Identify the Traveler WiresLocate the two traveler conductors between the 3-way switches. Keep them separate from the common wire so the circuit is not rewired as a single pole switch by mistake.
04Connect Common, Travelers, and GroundConnect the tagged common wire to the common terminal, connect the two traveler wires to the traveler terminals, and connect the bare copper or green grounding conductor to the green grounding terminal.
05Mount & Test Both SwitchesFold wires neatly into the boxes, mount the switches, install wallplates if required, restore power, and test that either switch can turn the connected light or load on and off.

The plate for this device is T9601 1-Gang Toggle Wallplate. Order the plate with the device so the opening, the face and the finish arrive on the same delivery — and confirm the wall box depth on any combination or fast-charge model before installation day.

Questions buyers ask about this model

TM-2 — answered

How many devices does a 3-way circuit need?

Two. A 3-way switch is a single device, not a pair: one at each end of the run, with the traveller conductors between them and the common terminal identified at both ends. A one-line order for a stairwell comes back short, which is the single most common ordering error on this line.

Toggle or decorator rocker for this application?

Both exist in this line on the same 15A platform, so the choice is a plate and interior-standard decision rather than an electrical one. Toggle matches the traditional opening and legacy stock; the rocker face is what a modern interior package usually specifies, and it takes the decorator-style rectangular plate.

Is the wall plate included with the switch?

No. Every model in this switch line is published without a plate, so the plate is ordered separately: decorator opening for the rocker faces, standard toggle opening for the toggle faces, and the matching gang configuration for the combination switches.

Can these switches dim, schedule or connect to an app?

No. They are mechanical switches, and dimming, smart control, timer control and wet-location applications are excluded from the published application data for this line. Those are different listed devices — tell us the load and we will point you at what actually does it rather than stretch this line over it.

What do you need to quote a switching schedule?

The plan with the control locations marked, the colour and the plate type per room. We return the switch list by control layout, the plate cross-reference for each face, and the count — including the pairs a 3-way circuit actually needs.

Answers above are specific to TM-2; the model list, quantities and project type is what we need to quote it back in one business day.
